The Overthinking Football Season Finale Preview (Part 1)
Something a little different as we approach the final day...
Welcome back for one last Gameweek. Instead of our usual Big Questions format, or our alternative Preview format, we thought it would be a good opportunity to look at all 20 Premier League sides. This is part-Preview for GW38, part-introduction to our upcoming retrospective articles (with players having just one more opportunity to stake their claim for positions in the WAR Teams of the Season). Word count requires me to keep this introduction fairly brief, so we’ll get right into it.
Part One is below and covers the first ten teams, Part Two will follow tomorrow.
20: Sheffield United
vs Tottenham (H)
Headline: 101 Goals conceded and counting. The worst defensive season in Premier League history.
Star Fantrax performer: Gustavo Hamer’s 68 Key Passes lead the team and prop him up as the only Sheffield United player with over 200 Fantrax Points.
Streaming options for GW38: None we’d recommend.
19: Burnley
vs Nottingham Forest (H)
Headline: Close, but not close enough for Vincent Kompany’s Clarets. Was the wrong man playing in goal most of the season?
Star Fantrax performer: It seems silly to give this award to Arijanet Muric. But we also can’t not give this award to Arijanet Muric. He’s averaging 14.25 Fantrax points per Start since making the team. And he’s not kept a single Clean Sheet in that run. It’s wild stuff.
Streaming options for GW38: Muric remains under-rostered but will be gone in all active leagues. We often recommend Wilson Odobert, but this isn’t a perfect matchup as Forest have played a narrow back-five in recent weeks, limiting the space for wide attackers. It’s probably not a good spot to find streams really.
18: Luton Town
vs Fulham (H)
