Officially Launching Overthinking Football 2.0
Introducing our new product for the upcoming 2023/24 Fantrax season.
Hello. And to all those receiving this email into their inbox, thank you. Thank you for subscribing to this product before we’d even fully worked out what we wanted this to be. We appreciate you all.
And to all those who are coming to this and to our work afresh, welcome. It’s great to have you.
We opened this Substack months ago whilst we were still developing our ideas, back when there seemed a very real threat that Twitter could fall over at any minute. And, although Twitter remains about as steady as an octogenarian after a bottle of rum, some things have changed. We know a lot more now about what we want to offer to the Draft Community and the unique voice we believe we can bring. And we’re excited to share some of it—including our new website!—with you today.
The big headline is that there is now a paid tier of Overthinking Football membership. We know, we know. We used to do this stuff for free (and for our core content, we still will), and now we’ve got paid tiers. We’ve quite literally sold out. But the main reason we now have the paid tier is to support two things that we would like to bring to you:
We want to be able to write more frequently. We really enjoy doing this, and we like to believe that you get enjoyment from reading what we put out. But writing takes time, often a lot of it. Our new subscriber tiers will simply allow us to bring more to the community.
We want to create more than just data and newsletters. The first version of the Draft Ranker app was a small glimpse of what we want to bring to the draft game, but apps take time to produce and money to bring to life. The community has only scratched the surface of what is possible in this arena, and we cannot wait to see what else we can create.
But rest assured, we aren’t locking everything away in the paid tower. So, with that said, lets take a look at our two product tiers:
Tier 1 - Data enthusiasts
Free
The ethos of the whole Overthinking Football product has always been about creating and gathering better data for the draft fantasy game and getting it into peoples’ hands.
This isn’t going to change. The data that you know and love will continue to be available. Our Expected Fantasy Points (xFpts), Wins Above Replacement (WAR) and Quality Starts metrics are going to be there to help managers build and manage their rosters over the course of the season. An updated, interactive table developed this offseason means that working with (and visualizing!) this data has never been easier. We hope that the Community continues to integrate these metrics into the mainstream, allowing for more informed decision-making and discussion.
Tier 1 subscribers will also be able to use our Draft Ranker 2.0 tool to create your own pre-draft personalised ranks. A lot of work has gone into improving our Ranker over the course of last season, and its basic functionality will be available to all.
And lastly, we will also be offering a small number of free articles in this tier. These free articles may range from weekly advice to topical deep-dives, and will give you a glimpse at the benefits of upgrading to the Tier below . . .
Tier 2 - The Overthinkers
$5 per month or $40 per season
If good data is the fuel for draft success, deriving meaningful insights from that data is the engine. We want to provide even more analysis of the data and what we’re seeing on the pitch. This includes:
Our pre-draft deep dives on Breakouts, Busts, and analysis of ADP trends
Draft Ranker consensus rankings and analysis output, including our new Ranker Report product
Access to our upcoming player stat comparison dashboard apps (and any future apps developed by the team)
In-season highlighting of over- and under-performers, players to watch, and other key interesting data points and advice
In-season player performance projections
Deep-dives into individual players and clubs, including our round-table discussions
The Overthinking Football Fantrax Teams of the Year
Exclusive video and audio content from the Overthinking Football crew on an ad-hoc basis
And of course any other content we think of during the year!
We hope to see many of you over on the paid side and we’d love your feedback on any of the above. Pulling everything together this offseason hasn’t been easy, but we think what we have in store fills a big hole in the current Draft FPL content creation and analysis landscape. We’re all really excited about the things we’re looking to do and hope that you are too!
